Build Introduction

The Fire Bolt Sorcerer rapidly fires projectiles for a machine-gun playstyle. Fire BoltFire Bolt always pieces to apply high Burning damage to multiple enemies. FlameweaverFlameweaver provides additional projectiles for each cast of Firebolt to shotgun individual targets. The Fire Bolt Sorcerer is a top-tier build for boss killing, perfect for Uber Bosses and high Tiers of The Pit!

This endgame build guide assumes your character is at least Level 50 in World Tier 3. Follow the Incinerate leveling guide to start a new character, and then switch to the Fire Bolt Sorcerer when you obtain FlameweaverFlameweaver. Incinerate and Fire Bolt builds have similar Burning damage setups, making the transition between builds easy.

Season 5 Update (Patch 1.5.0): The newly added Shard of VerathielShard of Verathiel provides a 3x damage multiplier for the Fire Bolt Sorcerer, at the cost of 25 Resource per cast. Transforming Fire BoltFire Bolt into a Mana Spender also allows Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies to be utilized. Check the full setup to empower the Fire Bolt Sorcerer!

Elixirs can also drop randomly from enemies and chests during many activities in Diablo 4. Listed below are the best Elixirs to consume for the Fire Bolt Sorcerer, ranked by importance.

  1. Elixir of AdvantageElixir of Advantage is the most beneficial choice for damage output, if not already capped at 100% Attack Speed bonus from gear and Paragon.

Return to the Alchemist again when you reach Level 20, 30, 45, 60, 70, 80 and 90, to upgrade your potion. The extra healing is essential to survival.

Stat Priority and Tempering Affixes

Listed below are the affixes to prioritize on gear for Fire Bolt Sorcerers. Each line of affixes is listed in order of importance. Affixes on the same line are considered to be equally important, but their benefits may vary depending on how much is stacked or other character stats. Bolded affixes are the most important targets for Masterworking upgrades.

When comparing weapons of similar item levels, One-Handed Weapons are preferred over Two-Handed Weapons, as a Focus provides more beneficial utility affixes. A Dagger or a Wand is selected for the fastest weapon speed.

Critical Strike Damage is beneficial for Burning InstinctBurning Instinct until the damage bonus is capped.

If you are using a speed setup with Teleport Enchantment, temper the Evade Cooldown Reduction affix from the Natural Motion Manual onto your Boots and Amulet. Otherwise, temper the Movement Speed or Teleport Cooldown Reduction affixes.

The priority order of Resistances is Lightning > Poison > Fire > Cold > Shadow. Maximum Resistance is 70% by default for each element and can be increased to 85% by various sources.

Armor is only needed until capped at 9,230.

Check the Tempering and Masterworking section for more details on Blacksmith upgrading.

Unique and Mythic Items

Listed below are the recommended and optional Unique Items for the Fire Bolt Sorcerer build. Each item description includes the most important affix to target for Masterworking upgrades. Check the Mythic Unique Farming guide for information on target-farming them.

  • FlameweaverFlameweaver (required) greatly boosts coverage against groups of enemies and damage output against individual targets.
    • Masterworking Priority: Ranks to Pyromancy Skills
  • Raiment of the InfiniteRaiment of the Infinite (highly recommended) enables the Telestomp playstyle to group and Stun enemies.
    • Masterworking Priority: Ranks of the Glass Cannon Passive
  • Tyrael's MightTyrael’s Might (optional) is the best defensive option for a Chest Armor, although this Mythic Unique Item can be difficult to obtain. The divine barrage does not contribute a significant portion of the total damage in this build.
    • Masterworking Priority: Damage Reduction
  • Tal Rasha's Iridescent LoopTal Rasha’s Iridescent Loop (recommended) can provide up to a 45% damage multiplier with 3 elemental stacks.
    • Masterworking Priority: Cooldown Reduction
  • Harlequin CrestHarlequin Crest (recommended) provides additional Ranks to Fire BoltFire Bolt, Defensive Skills, and 20% Damage Reduction, if you are lucky enough to find this Mythic Unique Item.
    • Masterworking Priority: Cooldown Reduction
  • Shard of VerathielShard of Verathiel (optional build variant) provides a 3x multiplier for Fire BoltFire Bolt, at the cost of 25 Primary Resource per cast. Solving for the heavy Mana drain requires strict gearing, so check the Shard of Verathiel section for the full setup.
    • Masterworking Priority: Ranks to Basic Skills
  • Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies (optional build variant) synergizes with Shard of VerathielShard of Verathiel to reduce the Mana cost of Fire BoltFire Bolt, while also providing a damage multiplier.
    • Masterworking Priority: Attack Speed

Advanced Information

Additional details are provided in the following sections for a more in-depth explanation of the Incinerate Sorcerer. Read this advanced information after understanding the basic overview of the build in the previous sections.

Build Mechanics

The Fire Bolt Sorcerer focuses on scaling Burning damage, due to the Damage Over Time portion of Fire BoltFire Bolt being much higher than the hit damage. Fire Bolt always pierces through enemies, and the newly added FlameweaverFlameweaver greatly enhances the power of the Fire Bolt Sorcerer to become a top boss-killing build. All 3 projectiles from the unique effect can shotgun an individual target, stacking 3 sources of Burning damage from Fire Bolt per cast. The extra projectiles also provide more coverage to clear multiple enemies that are spread out.

The Fire Bolt Sorcerer needs to cast FirewallFirewall to split Fire BoltFire Bolt projectiles with FlameweaverFlameweaver for maximum damage output. The playstyle requires a two-button rotation to deal damage, which can make the Fire Bolt Sorcerer slightly slower than other builds for clearing easy activities, like Helltides.

Vulnerable status is applied to by Ice BladesIce Blades or the Lucky Chance to Make Enemies Vulnerable temper on a Ring. Ice Blades deals Cold damage to grant a third buff stack from Tal Rasha's Iridescent LoopTal Rasha’s Iridescent Loop. The other 2 Tal Rash stacks are granted through TeleportTeleport and Fire BoltFire Bolt.

Critical Strike Damage is applied to Burning Damage with Burning InstinctBurning Instinct from Paragon. This allows us to benefit from Critical Strike Damage on gear.

Crowd Controls and Boss Stagger

The Lucky Hit Chance to Freeze temper is utilized to activate HoarfrostHoarfrost and ControlControl for additional damage. These damage bonuses do not apply to Bosses unless they are Staggered.

Lucky Hit Chance to Freeze/Stun/Immobilize tempers are utilized to quickly Stagger bosses. Repeated Crowd Controls of the same type in a short duration apply less Stagger to bosses, so separate sources of Crowd Controls are tempered for maximum effect.

The In-Game Crowd Control Tooltip

Telestomp with Raiment of the Infinite

Raiment of the InfiniteRaiment of the Infinite allows the Incinerate Sorcerer to use 2 sources of TeleportTeleport offensively. Teleporting on top of enemies to Stun and group them up is called “Telestomping”. This playstyle can quickly clear groups of enemies and keep them Crowd Controlled (CC) for safety, perfect for speed-farming Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and The Pit!

Use the following setup for the Telestomp Sorcerer.

  • Equip Raiment of the InfiniteRaiment of the Infinite to enable Telestomps. Target-farm Raiment of the Infinite from Varshan or Lord Zir for the best chances of it dropping.
  • Slot TeleportTeleport into an Enchantment Slot.
  • Equip Boots with the implicit effect, Attacks Reduce Evade’s Cooldown, which work with the Evade Teleport.

Shard of Verathiel Fire Bolt Sorcerer

The final version of the Fire Bolt Sorcerer utilizes Shard of VerathielShard of Verathiel for a massive 3x damage multiplier, at the cost of 25 Primary Resource per cast. Mana is drained quickly from rapidly casting Fire BoltFire Bolt with a high Attack Speed, so the setup has strict requirements to function.

Make the following changes to the original version of the Fire Bolt Sorcerer to solve Mana issues:

  • Equip a Shard of VerathielShard of Verathiel with at least a 150% value on the unique effect.
  • Equip Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies.
  • Equip Legendary Boots with a greater affix of 8 Mana per Second. Prioritize Masterworking bonuses on Mana per Second. You can also do the same for a Legendary Chest if you do not mind replacing Raiment of the InfiniteRaiment of the Infinite.
  • Prioritize tempering Resource Cost Reduction or Resource Generation from Manual: Worldly StabilityManual: Worldly Stability on the Legendary Amulet.
  • Prioritize obtaining a Resource Cost Reduction affix on the Legendary Focus.

Obol Gambling

Obol gambling is a great way to potentially find item upgrades or items missing from your build. Use Obols on your target equipment for a chance to receive Greater Affixes. Check out the new tool from Icy Veins for gambling Obols in the link below.
