Build Introduction

The Ice ShardsIce Shards Sorcerer releases a barrage of projectiles to shotgun enemies, piercing through them all with Aspect of Piercing ColdAspect of Piercing Cold. AzurewrathAzurewrath synergizes well in this build to deal additional damage and Chill enemies.

This guide lists Azurewrath as a required Unique Item for the default setup of the build, because without it, the Ice Shards Sorcerer underperforms compared to other recommended builds. If you are determined to start playing the Ice Shards Sorcerer earlier, this guide can still be followed without Azurewrath.

This endgame guide assumes your Sorcerer character is Level 60 and meets all the Build Requirements. Follow the Sorcerer Leveling Guide for help getting there.

Check the build tier lists to see how this build compares to others on Icy Veins.

Build Mechanics

The Ice Shards Sorcerer requires careful management of resource and multiple cooldowns. Ice ShardsIce Shards deliver powerful single target damage and can pierce through multiple enemies with Aspect of Piercing ColdAspect of Piercing Cold.

AzurewrathAzurewrath deals the majority of damage output in this build with the Lucky Hit Chance to Deal Cold Damage affix, so prioritize Greater Affix and Masterworking bonuses to boost its value. Enemies are quickly Frozen by the unique effect of Azurewrath.

Fists of FateFists of Fate grants a massive amount of Lucky Hit Chance to activate AzurewrathAzurewrath damage more often.

Most enemies can be killed at range with Ice ShardsIce Shards and AzurewrathAzurewrath damage. Against elites and bosses, stand close to the target to shotgun them with all the projectiles to maximize damage output.

Ice ArmorIce Armor is refreshed quickly due to Shimmering Ice ArmorShimmering Ice Armor.

Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents can be active at all times due to Aspect of the Orange HeraldAspect of the Orange Herald rapidly reducing its Cooldown.

Evade Teleport Speed-Farming Setup

TeleportTeleport Enchantment enables an Evade Teleport, which is the primary Movement Skill used to traverse quickly while speed-farming. Evade Teleport becomes more readily available than the Teleport on the Skill Bar in this setup.

Reduce the starting Cooldown of Evade Teleport to 3 seconds or less to refresh it after every 2 Attacks with the following list:

  • Equip Boots with the implicit stat, Attacks Reduce Evade’s Coodown by 1.5 Seconds.
  • Temper Evade Cooldown Reduction on your Boots (with Masterworking bonuses) and Amulet.
  • Boost Cooldown Reduction affixes on gear with Greater Affix and Masterworking bonuses.
  • Obtain Enchantment MasterEnchantment Master in the Paragon setup to reduce the Cooldown of Evade Teleport.
  • Invest 5 Skill Points into TeleportTeleport to reduce the Cooldown of both versions.

Rotation and Playstyle

Use the following rotation to optimize damage.

  1. Constantly refresh Ice ArmorIce Armor when available.
  2. Keep Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents activated to gain 25% Attack Speed bonus from Prime Unstable CurrentsPrime Unstable Currents.
  3. Use TeleportTeleport and Evade Teleport to traverse.
  4. Cast Flame ShieldFlame Shield once to gain the third damage stack from Tal Rasha's Iridescent LoopTal Rasha’s Iridescent Loop. Afterwards, Flame Shield can be reserved for emergencies.
  5. Against elites and bosses, cast Frost NovaFrost Nova to apply Mystical Frost NovaMystical Frost Nova for more damage.
  6. Repeatedly cast Ice ShardsIce Shards at the toughest enemy to deal damage.

Elixirs and Incenses

Visit the Alchemist in any main town to craft helpful Elixirs, or find Elixirs by killing enemies or opening chests during various activities in Diablo 4. Listed below are the best Elixirs to consume for the Azurewrath Ice Shards Sorcerer, ranked by importance.

  1. Elixir of AdvantageElixir of Advantage provides the highest increase to damage output, if not already capped at 100% Attack Speed bonus from gear and Paragon. Lucky Hit Chance is also granted to activate AzurewrathAzurewrath damage more often.
  2. Elixir of PrecisionElixir of Precision increases damage, if not already capped at 100% Critical Strike Chance.
  3. Elixir of ResourceElixir of Resource helps with Mana issues, if you do not already have the appropriate Mana gear.
  4. Elixir of FortitudeElixir of Fortitude is the best general-purpose option for survivability.

Incense can also be crafted at the Alchemist. Sage's WhisperSage’s Whisper (Core Stat), Song of the MountainSong of the Mountain (Defensive), and Soothing SpicesSoothing Spices (Resistance) are recommended. These Incenses are categorized into three separate groups and can be active simultaneously. The added Armor and Resistances are especially helpful to reach their caps.

Telestomp with Raiment of the Infinite

Raiment of the InfiniteRaiment of the Infinite allows the Ice Shards Sorcerer to use 2 sources of TeleportTeleport offensively. Teleporting on top of enemies to Stun and group them up is called “Telestomping”. This playstyle can quickly clear groups of enemies and keep them Crowd Controlled (CC) for safety, perfect for speed-farming Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and The Pit!

Use the following setup for the Telestomp Ice Shards Sorcerer.

  • Equip Raiment of the InfiniteRaiment of the Infinite to enable Telestomps. Target-farm Raiment of the Infinite from Varshan or Lord Zir for the best chances of it dropping.
  • Equip TeleportTeleport in an Enchantment Slot.
  • Equip Boots with the implicit effect, Attacks Reduce Evade’s Cooldown.
