Even though we are now in Season 11, Diablo 4 does still not offer a true black or purely black dye (pigment) option. That might not sound like a big deal, but for a lot of players, it has turned into a surprisingly long-running frustration.
This recent Reddit thread is just one of many posts that highlight how unhappy parts of the community are with the current dye and transmog system, especially for a game that focuses heavily on character customization and cosmetics.
The Dye System Feels Limited
One of the biggest complaints related to customization is how restrictive the dye system feels overall. Instead of letting players fully customize colors, Diablo 4 relies on fixed dye presets. There is no color wheel, no RGB sliders, and no way to adjust shades. Generally, that is not a big deal, but when the available options do not even cover a simple, pure black… it can be quite frustrating.
Basic options are also missing. As mentioned, true black and pure white remain unavailable, even though they are some of the most popular colors in games with transmog systems.

On top of that, weapons and shields still cannot be dyed at all. This often leaves armor sets looking mismatched, even when players try to stick to a specific theme.
Especially with the Paladin cosmetic set in Season 11 right now, changing pigments is not really an option, unless you want your shield to completely stand out and not match the rest of the outfit.
Comparisons To Other Games Keep Coming Up
When it comes to armor customization, players sometimes compare Diablo 4 to games like Guild Wars 2 and Destiny 2, both of which offer more in-depth dye or shader systems. Multiple dye channels, unlockable colors, and endgame rewards tied to cosmetics come up again and again in these discussions.
The contrast makes Diablo 4 dye options feel a bit outdated, especially so many seasons into the game lifecycle.
Monetization Concerns Are Growing
With so many cosmetics to pick from, some players believe the limited dye system exists on purpose. The theory is that keeping dyes basic pushes players toward buying premium armor sets from the in-game shop, many of which already include darker or cleaner color schemes.
Furthermore, there is also growing frustration regarding the fact that new dyes do not arrive with seasons, even when seasonal armor themes would make perfect sense for them.
Still A Frustration in Season 11
Transmogging is a big part of self-expression in Diablo 4. Right now, a lot of players say they either hide their gear entirely or purposely choose awkward looks because nothing matches the way they want.

After 11 seasons, the absence of something as simple as a true black dye feels rather hard to ignore. For a game built around style, power, and identity, players would really like a bit more control over how their characters look.
