Build Introduction

This Dread Claws endgame build guide offers smooth transition from your leveling into late game. It provides good mobility and high performance. Mostly focused on smooth damage output more so than super high end Pit pushing (110+) that other Warlock builds offer.

  • One of the faster Warlock builds
  • Quick burst damage output
  • Relatively cheap to gear
Weaknesses
  • Limited high Pit capabilities. (Still able to do Pit 100)
  • Not the tankiest build around

Build Requirements

Aspect of Deeper ShadowsAspect of Deeper Shadows is somewhat “mandatory” to make the build feel good to play. It works without but becomes significantly smoother to play with this aspect!

Class Mechanic – Soul Shards

Soul Shards is the Warlocks unique class mechanic allowing you to bind yourself to a Soul Shard Greater Demon that will fight beside you. They come with a variety of different effects, as well as on-use-abilities to help you on the battlefield.

Below you’ll find the recommended Soul Shard Demon to bind for this build:

  • Mastermind Shard – Grants Summon Laalish Skill making Recast Skills no longer break Shadowform Stealth at the cost of 2 stacks of Shadowform per Cast. While you have Shadowform, Abyss Skills deal x30% increased damage, and you gain 5% increased Movement Speed per stack.
  • Blashphemous Fragment – Recast Skills Hex enemies on hit and increase the damage they take from your Abyss Demonology Skills by x20%.

Affixes and Tempering Priority

  • Affixes on gear are sorted in priority descending order.
  • Bolded affixes are the most important targets for Masterworking upgrade. If multiple affixes marked – any selected is acceptable for case by case gear.
  • Affixes marked by multiple “*” – indicate desirability of obtaining them as Greater Affix originally or with lucky Tempering.

Be sure to check our Tempering and Masterworking guides for more details about these topics.

Paragon Board

Below you’ll find the entire end-game paragon board set-up for this build in detail!

Season Mechanics

Splinters of Evil

In Season of Hell’s Legacy, one of seasonal powers will consist of the three Splinter of TerrorSplinters of Prime Evil, acquired by completing seasonal questline and defeating echoes of Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral, Baal at Arreat Summit, and Mephisto within the Durance of Hate. Splinter of Evil trigger iconic Prime Evil area of effect damage abilities and alter actitivies associated with the Prime Evil.

Main consideration for first Splinter of Evil choice is expected to be in activity modifiers. Only one Splinter of TerrorSplinter of Prime Evil can be used at a time, but there is a mechanism to change. Due to Helltide being the most common early progression activity, it is recommended to use Splinter of TerrorSplinter of Terror first.

Duplicitous Soul Splinters

The second layer of seasonal powers consists of Duplicitous Soul Splinters gems, like Abyssal Splinter of HellfireAbyssal Splinter of Hellfire, to be slotted into jewelry and the newly introduced Leoric's CrownLeoric’s Crown helm. You can equip up to three Abyssal Splinter of AnguishSoul Splinters among available Jewelry slots.

Duplicitous Soul Splinters gems provide sizeable buffs to some stats at the price of heavy penalties to others. One should be careful at making choices to either ignore the penalty – Damage over Time builds do not care about losing Critical Strike Chance, for example, or compensate it.

Recommended Duplicitous Soul Splinters setup to can be looked up in Gems and Runewords.

Diablo II Runewords Gear

In Season 15 some Diablo II runes, like RalRal or IthIth were reintroduced for the season, as the cherry on top. While being not impressive on their own – they can be used to craft new Unique gear piece by combining certain runewords and Normal “white” item base inside Horadric Cube. There are few the most impressive outcomes, like EnigmaEnigma (Jah Ith Ber), SpiritSpirit (Tal Thul Ort Amn), GriefGrief (Eth Tir Lo Mal Ral) or InfinityInfinity (Ber Mal Ber Ist). Ancestral version of item base will produce the Ancestral version of Unique.

Talismans

The Lord of Hatred expansion introduces Talismans as a new character progression system. You get to equip a Seal and place Charms into its slots for a massive power boost. The recommended setup for the Dread Claws Warlock build is listed below:

  • Seal – A 6 charm slot seal with Critical Strike Multiplier or any damage multiplier is the best here. The best set to use here would be “Shadow of Harash” (5 pieces).
  • Charm – Demonology Ranks, all stats or any defensive affixes is preferred. Make sure you get 5 of them to be of the same set as your Seal and the last charm should be Night TerrorNight Terror for optimal Talismans.

Mercenaries

During the Vessel of Hatred campaign, you will unlock Mercenaries to assist you. While you can choose freely early on, we recommend Raheir as your main merc:

For the reinforcement, stick with Varyana, utilizing her BloodlustBloodlust to trigger when any Skill is cast in combat.

Rotation and Build Mechanics

The build acts as a support role to our RampageRampage summon. Our Dread ClawsDread Claws is cast on both ourselves and our RampageRampage summon for great damage output. All our other abilities are only there to act as either defensive or offensive scaling buffs/debuffs to further scale this simple mechanical approach of the build.

Rotation and Playstyle

  1. Command FallenCommand Fallen – Make sure you have 3 (max cap) summoned at all times as they passively will help generate Dominance for you!
  2. MetamorphosisMetamorphosis – Turns you into a Demon! This lets you cast your Abyss skills without breaking Shadowform (Stealth), it also generates Shadowform stacks.
  3. RampageRampage – Summons a big summon that acts as a delivery method to have your Dread ClawsDread Claws hit from as well as yourself. This skill also applies Hex on enemies.
  4. Dread ClawsDread Claws – Main damage output skill that we spam which consumes Shadowform stacks to conjure claws around our RampageRampage summon.
  5. Command Laalish – This is our main Vulnerable application ability so mainly use this against harder rares or bosses on cooldown to have optimal damage output against them.
  6. Nether StepNether Step – General movement speed skill but can be used to get out of harms way.
