Gear, Stats, Gems, and Runes

The following sections cover the important systems that are essential to improving the power of your character in the endgame of Diablo 4.

Legendary Aspects

Listed below are all the best-in-slot Aspects for the Ice Shards Sorcerer build. Salvage Legendary Items with higher Aspect values to unlock them in the Codex of Power, and then imprint them onto Legendary Items with the preferred affixes. For the best results, combine these Aspects with the ideal Stat Priorities.

Shivering AspectShivering Aspect and Aspect of ControlAspect of Control have higher damage increases against Frozen enemies, but Storm Swell AspectStorm Swell Aspect and Aspect of Shredding BladesAspect of Shredding Blades provide more consistent damage for boss fights.

If you do not mind a stationary playstyle, Aspect of Inner CalmAspect of Inner Calm can provide slightly more damage than most Offensive Aspects. Casting TeleportTeleport does not count as moving, so it can be used to traverse while maintaining the damage bonus from Inner Calm. Use the Evade Teleport Speed-Farming Setup for this playstyle.

For the best-in-slot gear setup in Season 10, check the Chaos Armor section of the guide.

Stat Priority and Tempering Affixes

Listed below are the affixes to prioritize on gear for Ice Shards Sorcerers, ranked by importance. Affixes on the same line have equal value, so attempt to obtain all affixes in each line before moving on to the next. Bolded affixes are the most important targets for Masterworking upgrades. For more details, check the Tempering and Masterworking guides.

Prioritize capping Armor at 1,000 and all Resistances at 75%. Be aware of the increasing penalties to Armor and Resistances as you progress through Torment difficulties.

Build Mechanics

The Ice Shards Sorcerer requires careful management of resource and multiple cooldowns. Ice ShardsIce Shards deliver powerful single target damage and can pierce through multiple enemies with Aspect of Piercing ColdAspect of Piercing Cold.

Ice ArmorIce Armor is refreshed quickly due to Shimmering Ice ArmorShimmering Ice Armor.

Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents can be active at all times due to Aspect of the Orange HeraldAspect of the Orange Herald rapidly reducing its Cooldown.

Evade Teleport Speed-Farming Setup

TeleportTeleport Enchantment enables an Evade Teleport, which is the primary Movement Skill used to traverse quickly while speed-farming. Evade Teleport becomes more readily available than the Teleport on the Skill Bar in this setup.

Reduce the starting Cooldown of Evade Teleport to 3 seconds or less to refresh it after every 2 Attacks with the following list:

  • Equip Boots with the implicit stat, Attacks Reduce Evade’s Coodown by 1.5 Seconds.
  • Temper Evade Cooldown Reduction on your Boots (with Masterworking bonuses) and Amulet.
  • Boost Cooldown Reduction affixes on gear with Greater Affix and Masterworking bonuses.
  • Obtain Enchantment MasterEnchantment Master in the Paragon setup to reduce the Cooldown of Evade Teleport.
  • Invest 5 Skill Points into TeleportTeleport to reduce the Cooldown of both versions.

Rotation and Playstyle

Use the following rotation to optimize damage.

  1. Constantly refresh Ice ArmorIce Armor when available.
  2. Keep Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents activated to gain 25% Attack Speed bonus from Prime Unstable CurrentsPrime Unstable Currents.
  3. Use TeleportTeleport and Evade Teleport to traverse.
  4. Cast Flame ShieldFlame Shield once to gain the third damage stack from Tal Rasha's Iridescent LoopTal Rasha’s Iridescent Loop. Afterwards, Flame Shield can be reserved for emergencies.
  5. Against elites and bosses, cast Frost NovaFrost Nova to apply Mystical Frost NovaMystical Frost Nova for more damage.
  6. Repeatedly cast Ice ShardsIce Shards at the toughest enemy to deal damage. Stand next to enemies to shotgun them with all the projectiles.

Elixirs and Incenses

Visit the Alchemist in any main town to craft helpful Elixirs, or find Elixirs by killing enemies or opening chests during various activities in Diablo 4. Listed below are the best Elixirs to consume for the Ice Shards Sorcerer, ranked by importance.

  1. Elixir of Advantage IIElixir of Advantage II provides the highest increase to damage output, if not already capped at 100% Attack Speed bonus from gear and Paragon.
  2. Elixir of Precision IIElixir of Precision II increases damage, if not already capped at 100% Critical Strike Chance.
  3. Elixir of Resourcefulness IIElixir of Resourcefulness II helps with Mana issues, if you do not already have the appropriate Mana gear.
  4. Elixir of Fortitude IIElixir of Fortitude II is the best general-purpose option for survivability.

Incense can also be crafted at the Alchemist. Sage's WhisperSage’s Whisper (Core Stat), Song of the MountainSong of the Mountain (Defensive), and Soothing SpicesSoothing Spices (Resistance) are recommended. These Incenses are categorized into three separate groups and can be active simultaneously. The added Armor and Resistances are especially helpful to reach their caps.

To get started with the Evade Teleport speed-farming setup, reduce the starting Cooldown of Evade Teleport to 3 seconds or less to refresh it after every 2 Attacks with the proper implicit stat on Boots. Once you obtain Harlequin CrestHarlequin Crest, an Evade Cooldown of 1.5 seconds is possible to cast it after every Attack. Depending on your Attack Speed, 1.7 seconds on Evade Cooldown can still be optimal to account for a casting animation.

Follow the list below to optimize the Cooldown of Evade Teleport:

  • Equip Boots with the implicit stat, Attacks Reduce Evade’s Coodown by 1.5 Seconds.
  • Temper Evade Cooldown Reduction on your Boots (with Masterworking bonuses).
  • Harlequin CrestHarlequin Crest, with a Greater Affix and/or Masterworking bonuses applied to its Cooldown Reduction affix, is required to reach the 1.5-second breakpoint on Evade Teleport.

Season 10 Updates

A brief summary of the changes in Patch 2.4.0 that may pertain to this specific build is provided below. For a complete overview of Season 10, take a look at the comprehensive season guide.
