<p>The Diablo 4 PTR for Season 9 is underway and it didn&#8217;t take too long for players to break things and discover bugs! Just 20 minutes into testing, a player has managed to hit infinite damage, triggering a bug that causes numbers to go negative!</p>

<p>As you can see in the screenshot, the player managed to hit a damage number so high it overflowed into the negatives: -9,223,372,036,854,775,808, the exact lower limit of a 64-bit signed integer.</p>

Infinite Damage Is Back in Diablo 4’s Season 9 PTR — Players Hit -9 Quintillion!

All Rogue Changes Coming in Diablo 4 Season 9 (Patch 2.3.0)


<p>Players have been poking around the Sins of the Horadrim Public Test Realm for a few days now, taking a look at the new features the season brings. The main focus of the season is the Nightmare Dungeon rework. And a big part of that is the Escalating Dungeons. However, players currently aren&#8217;t too pleased with how this is turning out on the PTR. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Not a Lot of Escalating Going On</h2>



<p>The idea behind Escalating Dungeons is to string three NMDs together and make them more of a connected challenge. And there&#8217;s a boss at the end! They&#8217;re meant to be an additional endgame activity. However, what players are seeing on the PTR is just a pretty standard three NMDs back-to-back, with not much more to it. </p>



<p>The escalation part seems to only involve adding more NMD affixes. That&#8217;s pretty much it. You finish one dungeon, a portal for the next one opens up, and the next one then has two affixes. Same thing with the third with three affixes. </p>

<p>Unfortunately, as an endgame activity, most players breeze through the dungeons very quickly. The affixes don&#8217;t really mean much, as the enemies die fast. Adding one or two more isn&#8217;t as relevant as making the enemies themselves more difficult. Having to face Astaroth at the end does add some variety, as he&#8217;s a brand new boss (<a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/two-bosses-in-one-astaroth-and-amalgam-return-in-season-9/">or two, really</a>), but the three dungeons preceding that aren&#8217;t anything special. </p>

<p>This may be an issue of over-gearing on the PTR, as players have access to very high-quality items. However, Nightmare Dungeons get pretty easy pretty fast once you get to your chosen Torment difficulty, mainly being Obducite farms. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Random Affixes</h2>



<p>Another thing players noticed with the Escalating system is that it doesn&#8217;t actually &#8220;stack&#8221; affixes from dungeon to dungeon. What happens when you move from the first to the second and second to third dungeon is that the two/three affixes just get re-rolled. So you&#8217;re not really adding to your previous affixes, but rather getting random new ones each time you move to the next dungeon. </p>

<p>This isn&#8217;t really a big issue, but it does take away from the coherency of the set of dungeons, as you feel you&#8217;re just doing three random dungeons back-to-back, instead of a single escalating experience. </p>



<p>It&#8217;s always important to note that this is still only the PTR, and Blizzard are looking for exactly this type of feedback from the players. These types of things can get fixed after  the issues are pointed out during testing, so let&#8217;s see how the Escalation system works out in the end! </p>


Diablo 4 Season 9’s Escalating Dungeons Aren’t Quite Escalated


<p>A dedicated Diablo 4 player has completed 99 runs of the <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/kurast-undercity-guide/">Kurast Undercity</a> and shared a detailed breakdown of their loot on <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/1knhkif/i_did_99x_tribute_of_harmony_runes_kurast/">Reddit</a>!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Total Time Spent and Run Times</h2>



<p>Reddit user <a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/GaunerHarakiri/">GaunerHarakiri</a> spent nearly 4 hours completing the 99 runs, specifically, the session took 3 hours, 37 minutes, and 33 seconds, including time spent at the Blacksmith.</p>



<p>Individual runs averaged at 2 minutes and 11 seconds, with the fastest completed in just 1 minute and 52 seconds.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Paragon XP Gains</h2>



<p>The player started at Paragon 261 and gained approximately 1.5 levels over the course of the runs. Notably, the final 49 runs were completed during the Mother&#8217;s Blessing Event, which provided a +35% XP bonus.</p>

A Full Breakdown of Loot from 99 Kurast Undercity Runs


<p>Players have noticed a bit of a flaw in the new Horadric additions to Nightmare Dungeons on the<a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/official-diablo-4-season-9-ptr-preview/"> PTR</a>. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">NMDs and Obducite</h2>



<p>The main function of Nightmare Dungeons is to gain Obducite for Masterworking your gear. The whole dungeon system is getting reworked in the next season. Part of that rework are the new <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/official-diablo-4-season-9-ptr-preview/#Explore">Horadric Strongrooms</a> players will run into while exploring the dungeons. They are basically mini-Infernal Hordes. You need to fight your way through waves of enemies with a boss at the end, and choose your buffs and debuffs.</p>

<p>However, it seems the main purpose of Nightmare Dungeons has been lost within these Horadric sub-sections. The Strongrooms do not drop any Obducite whatsoever. Basically, they&#8217;re treated as separate content from the NMD they&#8217;re in. This is a bit of a problem. Players only run Nightmare Dungeons for said Obducite, and then running into this section and not getting the one thing you&#8217;re here for during them isn&#8217;t exactly great. This is further exacerbated by the Escalating Nightmares system, which sees multiple NMDs strung together. </p>



<p>Having one of the main seasonal content additions be more of an &#8220;oh damn, a Strongroom again, there goes my Obducite&#8221; reaction than one of happiness to find them isn&#8217;t exactly what Blizzard should be going for. It may seem like this is minor. However, when the dungeons are the main focus of the season, this type of thing can snowball into real frustration very quickly. </p>

<p>This seems like a very easy fix, however. Considering it&#8217;s still the PTR, this is the perfect time for Blizzard to take note and implement the change before launch! So let&#8217;s hope the Obducitelessness is accidental and will be fixed before Season 9&#8217;s launch! </p>

      Now: While in Werebear form, you gain 5-10% Maximum Spirit Generation per second.</li>



<li>Of the Rabid Bear &#8211; Previously: While Grizzly Rage is active, Skills that Critically Strike apply Rabies and your Poison damage is increased by 60-105%.<br>
      Now: While Grizzly Rage is active, your direct damage is converted into Poison damage, you deal 20-40% more Poison damage, and you passively spread Rabies.</li>

All Druid Changes Coming in Diablo 4 Season 9 (Patch 2.3.0)


<p>We&#8217;re only a few days away from Diablo 4&#8217;s second anniversary! June 6th, 2023, saw the game&#8217;s launch, and we know there will be some sort of in-game event to celebrate it. Blizzard denote the full release as the anniversary, not the early access on June 1st. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Event?</h2>



<p>We have two official pieces of info from Blizzard regarding an anniversary event. The first is from <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/d4-roadmap-for-2025/">the big 2025 roadmap</a>. Here we see the anniversary marked at the bottom. </p>

<p>Now, that doesn&#8217;t signify that there will be a special event. Considering where it&#8217;s placed, it&#8217;s on a similar level as the Berserk collaboration, which did have an in-game element, but a small one. So at the very least, we&#8217;ll be getting something like the currently ongoing Berserk collaboration. This is further confirmed by Blizzard&#8217;s comments during the Season 9 Campfire Chat, where they mentioned there&#8217;s a new event Reliquary coming after the current Berserk one. </p>



<p>So, we&#8217;re definitely getting a Reliquary for the anniversary, but what else can we expect? Well, there&#8217;s been nothing official mentioned, but there are some things we can assume. Last year we got <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/diablo-iv-anniversary-event-march-of-the-goblins-arrives-june-6th/">the March of the Goblins event</a>, so we may be seeing a reprise with the Reliquary kicker. The event incorporated Mother&#8217;s Blessing, as well as gifts from the shop. </p>

<p>We may be getting something different, however, like the recent Lunar Awakening shrine event. Considering how short Season 8 is, we may also see something more major, offering players a lot of loot. </p>



<p>Whatever it is, we&#8217;ll find out soon enough, as there&#8217;s only a week to go until it starts! </p>


What Will the Diablo 4 2nd Anniversary Event Be?


<p>Players have been poking around the currently active Sins of the Horadrim PTR and one player really poked Belial a whole lot! </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Big Improvement, but Is it Enough?</h2>



<p>While we&#8217;ve seen Blizzard mention an overall rune drop buff and Lair Bosses having increased changes for Legendary runes, the numbers weren&#8217;t clear. Well, as of the PTR, they now are. </p>



<p><a href="https://www.reddit.com/user/Deidarac5/">Deidarac5</a> went poking Belial a breezy 100 times to see just how the rune drop rates worked. The &#8220;big&#8221; Lair Bosses, aka Belial, Duriel, and Andariel seem to have a 100% chance at dropping a rune, and a small chance at a second one on top. The other Lair bosses are around 50% for a rune. </p>

<p>The actual number of runes after those 100 runs came out to 9 legendary, 39 Rare, and 51 Magic runes. After upgrading all of them, this was the result:</p>

<p>That&#8217;s 12 Legendary, 21 Rare, and 12 Magic. Now obviously there a lot of RNG in those conversions, so the results will vary a lot. You also have to consider that to get to those 100 Belial runs you&#8217;d have to do a lot of lower tier Lair Bosses, so the actual total of runes would be quite a bit higher in the end. </p>



<p>While this is a lot more than we&#8217;re currently getting, it still may be a little short for those wanting to craft a specific Mythic Unique. But with trading, it should be possible to swap those Legendary runes out for ones you need, so we&#8217;ll have to wait and see if Blizzard keeps these numbers as they are or change them more post-PTR. </p>


Improved Season 9 PTR Rune Drop Rate Numbers


<p>With Patch 2.3.0 PTR underway, Blizzard has posted a list of known issues for the latest update.</p>



<p>The patch will be available for playtesting on the PTR (PC/Battle.net only) for 1 week (from now through June 3)</p>

<p>Welcome to the PTR known issues thread. This is a go-to resource for known issues you may experience while playing the PTR. The list below calls out issues we are aware of and intend to address by the official release of 2.3.0.</p>
<p><strong>DUNGEONS and HORADRIC STRONGROOMS</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Equipment Delve affix is not dropping a reward cache upon completion</li>
<li>Some dungeon interactables including Horadric Chests and Horadric Artifacts, have incorrect tooltip descriptors</li>
<li>The Horadric Materials Reserve may incorrectly drop equipment and other<br />
non-materials</li>
<li>Players can be locked out of choosing the next pillar they want to activate while within a Horadric Strongroom</li>
<li>Some Nightmare Dungeon keys may not spawn the dungeon when activated</li>
<li>Power Shrine Affixes may not spawn enough shrines in some dungeons</li>
<li>Horadric Artifacts may display missing string game messages when collected</li>
<li>Horadric Gem Reserves may not drop the correct number of gems</li>
<li>Horadric Strongrooms may appear in regular dungeons</li>
<li>Death animations and effects for mummies found in various Horadric Strongrooms are still in development and may display incorrectly</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>ASTAROTH</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>After defeating Astaroth, the player may be limited to exiting by using a Town Portal</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>HORADRIC POWERS</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Using skills with some combinations of Catalysts and Arcana can cause players to go beyond game boundaries</li>
<li>The tooltips for how to gain various Catalysts, Arcana, and Infusions are still in development and may not appear correctly</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>CLASSES</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Mystical Flame Shield is providing unintended, additional buffs to the Sorcerer</li>
<li>Rotting Lightbringer Druid Unique Item displays visual bugs with internal cooldown timer</li>
<li>Several minion bugged interactions with the unique item, The Hand of Naz</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>WARDROBE</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Several placeholders may appear in the wardrobe</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>BOOST NPC</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Using the character boost initially showcases your potion capacity to 16. This is a visual bug and will resolve itself once you restart your client.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>GAME SYSTEMS</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>The Seal of Control Horadric Jewel does not increase the Arcana, Sapping Crux’s, Vulnerable duration</li>
<li>Enchanting gear with two tempered affixes at the Occultist will only reroll affix ranges.</li>
<li>It is possible to enchant a tempered affix</li>
</ul>
