Blizzard is giving players a small but very welcome quality-of-life boost in Season 11. The maximum amount of Murmuring Obols you can store has been increased by 500, which means you have far more room to farm the currency before heading back to town.
If you are new or returning after a break,
Murmuring Obols are basically Diablo 4’s gambling currency. You use them at the Purveyor of Curiosities to target specific gear slots, which is one of the best ways to target items early in a season.

Higher Obol Cap and Better Obol Sources
Season 11 also makes Obols more accessible in general:
Altars of Lilith now give Obols:
Altars no longer provide permanent stat bonuses. Instead, the first time you discover one on the Seasonal Realm, you get a small bundle of gem fragments, Obols, and gold. The increased Obols cap pairs perfectly with this change, since you can store more of what you find while exploring.
Undercity runs reward even more Obols:
The Essence of Anguish Divine Gift gives extra Obols while you clear the Undercity, and the amount increases as you rank it up. If you purify the gift, Obols gained are doubled, which makes Undercity one of the most efficient Obols farms in the season.
Rank 5 even has a chance to spawn a Curious Murl Treasure Goblin, which can drop more loot and resources. However, you can only get the Essence of Anguish Divine Gift through fighting Andariel in the Undercity.
Here are the official patch notes sections that mention
Murmuring Obols:
2.5.0 Build #69544 (All Platforms)—December 11, 2025
Altars of Lilith
- Altars of Lilith no longer grant permanent character rewards, such as stat increases or Paragon points.
- Instead, discovering a statue for the first time will award a small amount of gem fragments, obols, and gold.
Miscellaneous
- Maximum Capacity of Murmuring Obols has been increased by 500.
A Great Boost for Early-Season Progress
Having an increased
Murmuring Obols capacity is great for multiple reasons:
- More stored Obols means fewer trips back to town
- You can save enough Obols to mass-gamble once you find the right build direction
- Gambling is one of the fastest ways to pick up a missing item or get early Legendaries
- You also have a small chance to hit very high-end drops, which makes Obols great for min-maxing
This change also pairs nicely with the updated affix ranges and the new Sanctification system, since gambling for a good base item before finishing upgrades is more important than ever.
Season 11 adds a lot of small changes, and this Obols increase is a simple win for everyone. So, if you love targeted loot hunting or want better early gearing, enjoy the extra space and start stacking.
