The Lord of Lies and Annoying Loot in Diablo IV

Jaym0 Avatar by Jaym0

Belial may be the Lord of Lies, but in Diablo IV, it’s his Hoard that’s really tricking players. A new Reddit thread that’s gaining traction in the r/diablo4 community highlights some serious frustrations players are facing with Belial’s loot system, especially when it comes to co-op play.

You can check out the Reddit post here:

While farming bosses is meant to be a rewarding loop, players are pointing out that Belial’s Hoard adds unnecessary frustration to the process, turning each post-fight loot moment into an annoying chore. From UI resets to multiplayer interruptions, the current system feels more like a punishment than a payoff.

What’s the Problem With Belial’s Hoard?

According to the thread’s original poster and supported by many in the comments, the experience of claiming loot from Belial’s Hoard is really annoying.

The first issue is the loot modifier that just doesn’t stick. You have to manually reselect your preferred boss drop every time you open the hoard, even if you just selected it seconds ago. The interface doesn’t remember the player’s last choice, making fast-paced farming feel unnecessarily slow.

It would be better if you could pick the option to keep the selected loot, which would make you gain some time while farming.

The second problem is when you play with other people. Co-op Interactions break the interface. If multiple players are interacting with the hoard, they constantly kick each other out of the menu, forcing repeated re-selections and interruptions. It’s especially frustrating when trying to speed through boss rotations as a party. You end up waiting in line at the chest until the previous person selected their loot.

Another issue is that it always defaults to Andariel. This forces constant micro-adjustments, even when farming a specific target like Duriel or the Beast in Ice. It’s just an overall loss of time for nothing.

The amount of “UGH annoying” when you are farming Belial in a party is really high.

Community Suggestions

The Diablo IV community hasn’t just complained, they’ve shared smart, simple fixes that could solve the problem:

  • Remember your last-selected boss within the same game instance.
  • Prevent UI interruptions when another player interacts with the Hoard.
  • Allow persistent loot target selection, or even better:
    • Unify boss loot pools to eliminate this entire problem in co-op play.

Why It’s Important to Have Good Looting Systems

Boss farming is already a repetitive grind. Add a clunky UI, reset menu, and multiplayer interruptions, and it starts to feel like a system working against the players instead of rewarding them. These may seem like small issues, but in a loot-driven game, quality-of-life makes all the difference.

Fixing Belial’s Hoard could be a small, but meaningful step toward a way better party feature, and better loot systems in the future.
